So, my girlfriend and I decided to venture out to Coney Island. I've taken the MTA many times but haven't ventured much into Brooklyn so I was pretty excited about riding a new line.

One thing I noticed is that as soon as the train leaves the tunnel and before it goes up to become elevated, it's connected to what looks like an old rail yard. Any info on that? Also, is that concrete structure and old station?

Thanks!

That is the 36th Street Yard (former BMT). A portion of the concrete structure is part of the track connection from the old 5th Avenue (Brooklyn) El which predates the subway. Part of that area dates back to the late 1800s railroad that preceeded the subway.

Also there is a lower level to the 9th Avenue station which used to be used by the BMT Culver Line (now the F line from Ditmas Av to Coney Island) and the Culver shuttle.
