Yesterday an NS eastbound snuck up on me at Valley Forge while I was touring Washington's headquarters. It had two typical Dash-9's followed by a Winchester and Western GP9 #403. It was on what I would presume to be 38G as it went past in the middle of the afternoon. Does anyone know why the Winchester and Western GP9 was in the consists or where it was heading?

It was indeed 38G and it is heading to Bridgeton, NJ where the Winchester and Western has shops on its New Jersey Division.

From the Sports pages of Today's New York Times:

Here is the article in which the above photo appears:

http://www.nytimes.com/2010/12/12/sport ... 2jets.html

Brief passage:

  • All this stemmed from what Fitzhugh, 24, did not do: accept an offer to rejoin the Jets for an undetermined time. Because of the way he had conducted himself, choosing family over football, he became an overnight sensation, an example, in this economy, of values and virtue and, corny as it sounds, doing the right thing.

“I had no idea any of this was coming,” Fitzhugh said. “I’m just a normal guy. I work on the railroad.”

I just reason I found out that there's a retired Mets Baseball pitcher working for NS on the Harrisburg Division. His name is Scott Williams . He played for the Mets back in 1992 . Here are the stats.
1992 15 413 9 Mets Scott Williams RHP JC Panola College (Carthage, TX.)

Here's a shot of Norfolk Southern 5294 going past my house a couple weeks ago. The NYS&W main line runs about 2 blocks from my doorstep, and I see 5294 and 5291 quite a bit, usually hauling the evening WS trains out of Ridgefield up to Sparta and thereabouts.

The Norfolk Southern H02 crew borrowed M&E C424 #19 today to run on the NJT Montclair-Boonton Line and the NS Totowa Branch.
