It says to post SD70ACe-related stuff here, so that's what I'm doing--although what I'm posting is neither related to the previous posts nor is really a question.

I've come across many references to the lower-clearance SD70ACe used in Australia, and there seems to be a lot of confusion about how clearance has actually been reduced. I've found many references to supposedly lower radiators, but I could never find that difference.

I just finished measuring some direct SD70ACe/lc side views--specifically, the heights to the walkway, bottom of underframe and bottom of fuel tank--and all these values check out at about 2 inches under what I've measured (or the nominal values) for the standard SD70ACe. There is also a modified secondary suspension, with fewer rubber spacers, and a notably smaller gap between the trucks and underframe.

It would therefore appear that the SD70ACe/lc shares all the same above-walkway dimensions with the standard SD70ACe and merely rides a couple of inches lower to the rail.

Anyone have any tips on keeping the back doors closed? Some have the locks broken off and every couple of miles we have to slam the door again to get it to closed.

Sure. Contact the FRA and express your concerns about safety, and about exhaust fumes entering the cab. Since the CFR says the cab doors must be secured, this would actually be a violation of the CFR. Give unit numbers, and you should see some action quickly.

Flag stick wedged betwen the latch and the back wall is extremely effective in holding the door shut much tighter then the latch and lock could ever hope to hold the door the door shut.

Here's a pic of an BHP ACe/LC and an BNSF ACe couple back to back.
There isn't much in it, only an inche or so. It was related to the car dumper clearance and some loading tunnel clearances.

The image is about a meg, I also have more if you like.

Brilliant comparison image! Looks like they just lowered the whole unit with a shorter secondary suspension, as I expected. Thanks!

Hi guys! I am trying to purchase some interior parts from an SD70ACe locomotive for an antique bus project. Specifically I need two pairs of cab walls (right/left) which have the vents for the forced heat and air molded into them. I have found a company that will order them for me as long as its for "non-locomotive" application. I just need the part numbers to make it happen. Any one know if theres an online parts catalog out there anywhere, or the name of the company that holds the supply contract for the plastic interior trim parts?

You need to go to a class 1 backshop. Ask somebody to pull up the part numbers using the EMD supplied parts ID CD. You can also try contacting CEECO or even MPI. You would be surprised what you can get with a polite and to the point Email.

attaching an exaggerated top view of what might have caused the problem. The outer edge of the catch might have been worn out or not welded on properly... i tried grind off some material on the inside of the catch and it solved the problem (at least for a while...)

Greetings everyone!

My name is Borislav and I am a train enthusiast from Serbia. I love American trains and locomotives and I also like to play Microsoft Train Simulator. Those who have played it know what a great simulator that is.

I would like to ask you if you could share photos of SD70ACe's cab interior similar to this one: http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.p ... 907&nseq=3

The thing is that I want to make a photorealistic cab for SD70ACe in Microsoft Train Simulator and I need a good photo to work with. I've tried to contact the owner of that photograph but I have never received his reply so I cannot use that one. There are a few more similar photos at railpictures.net but they are not that good, so I would really appreciate if you would be willing to share . If I find one that is good enough, I hope the owner would give me his permission to use it for my cab project.

I have one project finished, and that is a photorealistic cab for my favourite ES44 loco, which you can see here (I currently work on patch 1.2 that will add the glass heaters): http://www.trainsim.com/zview.php?cm=vi ... jpg&idx=51

Thank you very much in advance!

I was looking at http://tinyurl.com/3zlok5f and am curious what is that funny looking rectangular box on the long hood end?

Any input from members will be sincerely appreciated.

In case tinyurl does not work, actual URL is http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=331201

Another picture can be seen at http://railfan.thegrebs.com/Saudi-Arabi ... ACs/4005_1

Thanks in advance.

They are sand filters. The front one is to keep the combustion air and cooling air system from plugging up. The rear one is on the dynamic brake system. There isn't any on the radiators. I guess they won't plug up with sand but the sand can erode away the blades on the cooling fans.

Few questions.

1) Is A3432 TM in SD70ACe designed by Mitsubishi or EMD?
2) If it is designed by Mitsubishi, was there a complete transfer of technology so that EMD can manufacture them as their own?
3) IGBT inverters are designed by Mitsubishi for sure. But who manufactures them? EMD or Mitsubishi?
4) Is there a complete transfer of technology to EMD from Mitsubishi?

Thanks in advance for help.
