lvrr325 wrote:I have a lead that another LV U23B is going to be scrapped in Texas, but no details on which one yet. Apparently it's in bad shape, in need of wheels and not operable, and worth more as parts. That might make it the 2788, which I think had been sold last to a shortline down there somewhere and was sitting because the wheels were thin.
2788 (LV 512) was already scrapped in Texas..3 years ago.

That was the only confirmed LV U-boat in Texas..the "missing three" were also in Texas at one time..
but by now I think its 95% likely they are also long scrapped..

Beats me, I presume it was one of several sold to Texas Utilities and there's not much data showing anything beyond that for the units which went there; unless someone has a confirmed disposition I'm going to presume they still exist. My info came from a locomotive dealer, I'm just waiting to hear more before I post details.

Page updated!

http://www.frontiernet.net/~scottychaos/

Six new updates added to the page(s)

1. New LV caboose found! :P LV 95004, Lee Mass.
http://www.waymarking.com/waymarks/WM8Q ... Lee_MA_USA
Thanks to Roger Kirkpatrick for the link.
I did a little digging, and discovered its located at the "Sullivan Station Restaurant"
I emailed the restaurant, asking if they knew the Conrail number, or any other numbers..
they wrote back and said their caboose was Conrail 18679.
which according to: http://crcaboose.railfan.net/renum.htm
makes it LV 95004!

2. Another LV caboose found! but its LV number is currently unknown.
again, thanks to Roger Kirkpatrick for tracking this one down.
http://www.flickr.com/photos/tall_dude/ ... 276185@N00
This caboose belongs to the "Cedar Rapids and Iowa City Railway." of Iowa.
and it is their caboose No. 755? (cant tell the middle digit from the photo, I think its a 5)
AAR reporting marks CIC. CIC also has two ex-Reading North Eastern cabooses.

3. Big news! one of the parade float models built at the Sayre shops has been FOUND! in California:
see this thread for details:
http://forums.railfan.net/forums.cgi?bo ... 1287897981
I assumed it was steel, but it might be made of wood.
(although it looks like metal..)
Dominic, the owner, never did respond with his plans for it..
but its continued survival at this point is probably quite secure.
see the "other" page for more detail.

4. LV Alco C420 414 has been sold! To the Delaware-Lackawanna railroad.

Updated some sad news on two LV U-boats:

5. LV 508 is now LTEX 2784. this could be a bad sign.

6. and LV 509 is now OOS, (since 2009) she was known operating in 2004.
See the locomotives page for more details on these locomotives.

thanks,
Scot

Currently CitiSteel 104, (Formerly Phoenix Steel), in Claymont, DE

Updated LV Survivors page!

http://www.frontiernet.net/~scottychaos/LVRR.html

Lots of news this time..the summary:

The LV U-boats are falling fast! :(
Since 2003, Five have been scrapped!..and two have been scrapped in the past year.
recent losses are LV 507 and 510.
There are now only Four LV U-boats surviving! (and two still MIA)
The Tugboat Capmoore is now listed as scrapped as well.

And in the "good news" column, we have:
LV caboose 95100 saved from scrapping! :)
LV caboose 95085 (the Bicentennial caboose) has been discovered! and added to the list.
and a new Locomotive survivor added! LV SW8 No. 265 has been discovered and added!
LV 265 is now North Shore 366, She has been "hidden in plain sight" all these years, but somehow
hasn't made the list until now..

That LV caboose on the CRANDIC is their # 725, not 755. A rather strange modification is two crossing flasher lights mounted on the rear apparently to serve as markers. http://www.rr-fallenflags.org/misc-c/cic-c725gea.jpg I'm wondering if this may have been one of the cabooses sold to C&NW. FWIW Elwood's site has pics of a couple other CRANDIC cabooses - they are NE type but not LV.

LV Surviving Locomotives update!

http://www.frontiernet.net/~scottychaos ... tives.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Three new survivors recently found! and added to the list.
Two SW900m's, 124 and 126.
and SW8 256.

Plus straightened out some incorrect info concerning the history of LV 268 and 273.
see the bottom of the "updates" page for that story:

This isnt good:
AM 62 is now a parts donor as pieces are slowly stripped off this once proud running Alco.
from photo: http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.p ... 87&nseq=53" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Arkansas & Missouri 62 is LV 406.
the A&M is retiring all its alcos! they have five LV C420's.

Yep get your check books out everybody!

Per Trains Magazine, A&M will keep some Alcos for local service and those not in service will be stored for use in contract switching operations.

It certainly would be tough for them to run the railroad with only three new locomotives.
 #1213061  by scottychaos

It's three new locomotives to start with, but it's not going to stop with three.
and they are only keeping 10 Alcos operating, for "non-mainline" work, and a few more will go in storage..
out of a previous count of about 30 Alcos on the roster.
so, it's a pretty serious diminishing of the Alco fleet..

For the LV units specifically, here are the LV C420's they have:

LV 406 - AM 62
LV 407 - AM 64
LV 411 - AM 68
LV 412 - AM 66
LV 413 - AM 60

From the current trains magazine article, here are the 10 Alcos the A&M is planning to keep operating, for now:

C424 32 & 34
C420 42, 44, 50, 52, 54, 56, 57, 68

Three more Alcos are operating "off line" in nearby states, T6 14 & 16, and RS32 30.

So of the Five LV C420's, only one is on the "still operating" list!
others could be "in storage" and we know one (LV 406, photo link above) is likely to be scrapped soon, it is being parted out now.
So..LV C420's are up for grabs! and their future is far from secure..

Scot - while not LV related, that RS32 on the A&M was former NYC and is a sister to the Falls Road's ex-NYC unit. (2031 and 2035, originally 8031 and 8035). Both saw service in the Rochester area.
