For the record, here's the current status of the M&E's fleet of locomotives (at least what I know of):

SVC = Serviceable (Operational)
SVCRR = Serviceable but is down for running repairs
OOS = Out of Service

M&E = M&E paint
RRPX = owned by RRPX (a railroad leasing company owned by M&E owner Wes Weis)
CP = CP paint (patched)
AMTK = Amtrak paint
MEA = Maine Eastern paint
SBRR = Stourbridge/BAR paint
CN = CN paint (patched)
USAT = US Army Transportation paint
WT = Washington Terminal paint

C424 #18 - SVC in Morristown, M&E
C424 #19 - SVC in Morristown, M&E
SW1500 #20 - SVC at Bayway, M&E
RS1 #21 - SVCRR at Whippany, M&E/RRPX
GP9M #22 - OOS at Jefferson Road, M&E (needs engine replacement, stored with new engine on flatcar behind it)
BL2 #54 - SVC in Honesdale, SBRR
FL9 #484 - OOS at Jefferson Road, AMTK/RRPX (parts source)
FL9 #485 - OOS at Jefferson Road, AMTK/RRPX (parts source)
FL9 #486 - OOS at Jefferson Road, AMTK/RRPX (parts source)
FL9 #487 - OOS in Morristown, AMTK/RRPX (intact, may be restored to operation)
FL9 #488 - SVC in Maine, MEA/RRPX
FL9 #489 - SVCRR in Morristown, MEA/RRPX
SW1200 #557 - SVC at Bayway, RRPX (solid black paint)
SW1200 #559 - OOS at Jefferson Road, AMTK/RRPX (runs, but not well and leaks oil)
SW1200 #563 - SVC in Morristown, M&E/RRPX
SW1 #738 - OOS somewhere, WT/RRPX (I've never actually seen this locomotive)
SW1 #742 - OOS somewhere, AMTK/RRPX (will be parts source for #738) (I've never actually seen this locomotive)
GP10 #764 - SVC in Maine, MEA/RRPX
M420 #3562 - OOS at Jefferson Road, CN/RRPX (parts source)
M420 #3573 - SVC in Maine, CN/RRPX
C424 #4216 - SVCRR at Jefferson Road, CP (needs some electrical work, but runs and will enter service soon)
C424 #4231 - OOS at Jefferson Road, CP (will likely be a part source)

Any additional word on 489 - she's been in Morristown for a very long time - was expected back in Maine for last years' tourist season. Is there some significant issue?

Well, that would explain why I haven't found it anywhere! I stand corrected.

I actually don't exactly know. I know someone was talking about something dangling from the underside, and I know she's missing a battery. I don't know exactly what it needs to get going again. I can probably find out at work next week.

Actually, to correct myself, I've been informed that I'm wrong about everything but the battery... I don't really have any information beyond that.

Yeah, thanks for posting that.
I didn't see 4228 on there, but found a 2009 thread that suggests it went to the WNYP.

I think 764 says "GP9-[something]" under the cab windows, but that "horse collar" on the long hood always made me think it was a GP10.

Might be nice to get 489 back up to Maine, but then I suppose 488 will have to "go south" for an extended stay. :-P

488 has already made it's trip south - it was done first. 489 has been in NJ for a long time - it missed the entire 2010 season in Maine. Does anyone know what the issue is? The HEP works as they used it on the museum holiday trains.

Last time I checked, the piston assemblies were being rebuilt.

Yes, both 4223 and 4228 are on the WNYP now. From what I understand from the RRPX website, they were sold to the WNYP, not just leased: http://www.rrpx.com/Locomotive%20Main.htm

764 is a rebuilt ex-UP, ex-AMTK GP9. I'm not sure what the official designation is (it may very well be a GP10), but we call it a GP9. It says "GP-9" on the cab.

I had thought 4223,4228 were on long term lease as well as C-430 16/17 and there is that C425 #??
between M&E/RRPX they have alot of motive power and parts sources.

Like I said, if you check that link to RRPX's website, it appears that 4223, 4228, and the C425 have all been SOLD, not just leased. As for 16 and 17, I don't know a whole lot about them, because they were gone long before I started working there.

ex-M&E 16 is WNYP 431 and ex-M&E 17 is WNYP 432

Actually 431 is the former M&E 17 and 432 is the former M&E 16. The LAL system likes to keep the engine numbers in order by builder number, at least that is what they have done with the C-430s and most of the C-424m's. 431 has a builder number of 3494-04 and 423 has a builder number of 3494-05.
