From the 1880s until 1927 the Macon & Birmingham railroad ran from La Grange, GA to Skipperton, GA where it interchanged with GS&F eight miles South of Macon. The 90+ miles of country this line ran through, though not very mountainous, is very scenic rolling countryside. Significant portions of the right of way still exist and, similar to the Silver Comet Trail in Metro Atlanta, could easily be turned into a rail trail that could impact the economies of the depressed counties through which it would run. Several original depots and other structures from this railroad still exist, but are in severe danger of deterioration or collapse from neglect. A rail trail could breathe new life into them.

Any opinions?
