I just noticed something quite odd about the survivors list!

Is it REALLY possible that there is not ONE single surviving PRR or NYC EMD F-unit?!

I suppose its technically possible..There are no known surviving LV, DL&W or Erie F-units..but wow..the PRR and NYC F-unit fleet was truly massive..
and there are 7 NYC and 16 PRR surviving E-units!
it just seems so unlikely there would not be one single F out there anymore!

maybe some will still turn up! :-D

Well, anythings possible..don't forget that Baldwin shark B unit was still around after all those years. It was later scrapped, however it was converted to a generator on a trailor frame.

One thing I find odd is this: where did all Alco S-1, S-2, S-3 and S-4 switchers go? The New York Central apparently had vast fleets of them: http://www.thedieselshop.us/NYC.HTML

Ditto for the Pennsy. I can't imagine all of them went to the scrapper!

So far, Scot has found just 1 S-4 and a pair of S-1s. Let's help him find the rest of them!

P.S. Scot, your site continues to amaze me!

The only way they might still be out there is if any escaped being traded in as new power. EMD particularly made sure anything traded in, went to Pielet Bros. (or however you spell their name) and was cut up.

PRR and PC bought a lot of other units for trade-ins, a couple of the LV F-units were traded in on PRR C628's, and they bought some D&RGW F's to use as trades, but some of them were in good enough shape they put them in serivce and used some of their own junkers as trades instead. The NYC bought those dead NYO&W FT's about 1968 to trade in on new power, too. And PC particularly bought a huge number of GP38, 38-2 and GP40 units in the early 70s. There were not very many F's left by 1976, and they were pretty beat up. I would imagine you can track dispositions of those that remained using X2200 South -

I will agree, you can't completely rule it out, but if any remain they're well hidden and forgotten. Just like that Shark B - which was actually one of the three the PRR rebuilt and installed Alco 251 prime movers in.

Thanks for all the continued updates! :P
I will update the list soon..

I need some help with the FL9 list..
I recieved an email awhile back that said some of the FL9's I have listed as surviving are actually scrapped..
but now I cant find that email! :(
sorry..

and..I have some duplicate numbers for the original New Haven number,
for example, check out the listings for PC 5007 and PC 5010:

http://gold.mylargescale.com/Scottychao ... /index.htm

Both are listed as originally being NH 2010!
obviously it makes sense that PC 5010 was NH 2010, but why is the current ConnDot 2026 said to be originally NH 2010?
obviously something wrong there somewhere..

there are also two different locos listed as being originally NH 2020, and NH 2003..and probably more..

so the FL9 list has problems!
can anyone help straighten it out?

thanks,
Scot
