Someone once told me that at one point at least one of the L&N's former Monon RS-2's ended up in mexico. I've only been able to find one RS-2 in mexico currently..and it's xEJ&E.

Anyone know anything about this?

Here are the ex-Monon RS-2m dispositions from L&N Diesel Locomotives by Castner, Flanary, & Gordon.

Monon 51 to L&N 260 (2nd) retired 8/23/73 trade in GE.
Monon 52 not renumbered by L&N retired 1/20/72 rebuilt to slug by Railroad Supply to L&N 2063.
Monon 53 not renumbered by L&N retired 6/7/72 trade in GE
Monon 54 not renumbered L&N retired 1/20/72 rebuilt to slug by Railroad Supply to L&N 2064.
Monon 55 not renumbered to L&N retired 3/1/72 trade in to GE.
Monon 56 not renumbered to L&N retired 3/1/72 trade in to GE.
Monon 57 not renumbered to L&N retired 3/1/72 trade in to GE.
Monon 58 not renumbered to L&N retired 8/23/72 trade in to GE.
Monon 59 not renumbered to L&N retired 10/30/71 rebuilt to slug by Railroad Supply to L&N 2065.

My speculation would be that one of the units traded to GE could have found its way to Mexico on a short term lease.

Thanks for the list!

I spoke with a member of the Monon Hist. Society and he said he knew of one that made it down there, which number I'm not sure of yet...also on the yahoo group "MexList" they refer to an RS-2 of possible Monon Heritage being sighted in the late 70's early 80's. I believe it was at a place called Altos Hornos Steel.

I wonder if this engine is still around?

There is a mostly complete Altos Hornos diesel roster posted to LocoNotes by Larry Russell. The message is #40318 posted on January 13, 2004. One of the blanks in this roster could have been filled with that Monon
RS-2.
