Proposed Alcos that were never built

While going thru a copy of a "official" Alco specification list, I came across several Alcos with proposed spec numbers that were never built.

Scratch the DL-702 from you list as that one was built to the tune of 69 units in the US and 92 units in Mexico. The DL-702 was also known as the RSD-12.

The 702 s NOT the same as the RSD-12. Alco listed the 702 twice; once for the RSD-12 and 2nd time, the RS-38. Note that this RS-38 is a 4 axle unit, not a 6 axle unit like the RSD-12
BTW, the DL 701 is both the RS-11 and RS-36.
Maybe this RS-38 was a proposed upgraded version of the RS-36.

Rolf Stumf has it listed as the RSD-38 on Alco World. He also documents a DL-702E as well. Sure seems strange to have two different DL-702s

Alco had a bad habit of using the same spec # for more than one model.
The S-6 and the C430 use the same spec number (DL-430). Thats just one example of many.

They should have given the C430 the specification DL-430A, the same concept as applied with the C420. But then again if the specification numbers on the Century series replected the model name, it doesn't make sense to apply DL-721A to the C420 when they could have reused their odd-looking S-5 type test bed's #.

John, you're missing DL624.

DL-624 was used............by MLW. Its the RSD-17.

Since you obviously have quite a bit of specification material on ALCO's, do you, or anyone else for that matter, have the detailed spec sheets for ALCo's E-1646 model that you could photocopy or scan and send me for a research project?

1646 is a RSD-type model. I don't have any specs on that one.
However I noticed that is is similar to E-1647 which is also a RSD model that may been built for Mexico.
I will keep my eyes open for anything on this.

A little more digging reveals that no E-1646 or 1647 were built. Only E-1645 and E-1641 for both the U.S and Mexico.
