First they must learn to cross at crossings rather than using the railroad right-of-way as a thoroughfare.
And fences should be unnecessary; it's time the authorities pointed out that No Trespassing signs should suffice--if the signs are not enough the consequences should be on the trespasser.

The consequences are already on the trespasser, generally with a thud or a splat. It's surprising how far a body can fly through the air when hit at speed.

Just think how many "I can't believe this happened" stories start out with "a Florida man..."

And? Grade crossing signals are grade crossing signals, whether it's daytime or nighttime. Whether the train is doing 5 mph or 55 mph is immaterial.

Stupid people want to trespass on the railroad right of way or ignore grade crossing signals? Stupid people will learn the hard way and stop being stupid people.

It's Darwinian and herd mentality. Has the railroad made a Operation Safety push? Are the towns & schools, newspapers, and TV stations involved? "Hey we'll buy an ad on your station if you have a segment on railroad safety & run these safety PSAs 20 times"

I don't want to insult people. But are there more idiots there, and "think"(what they apparently not doing) they can beat a 79 mph ore faster train?

In Europe police is on regular base patrolling the railroadcrossing. And there a servere tickets(even prosecution) for delinquents. Maybe a solution to the ignorant and indifferent people.

I assume FEC has their own railroad police, that they have the best jurisdiction including passenger facilities. Ideally you want the local police to start stopping people and writing tickets, but if they can't be bothered, FEC police should aggressively write crossing & trespassing tickets, even arresting folks.
