Bombardier is entirely selling its Transportation division to Alstom, as per https://www.fliegerfaust.com/bombardier ... 48156.html

The entire Bombardier railway business is to be in the hands of the French. The deal is scheduled to be officially made on Thursday.

Düsseldorf According to information from industrial circles, the French railway technology manufacturer Alstom buys the entire railway business from Bombardier . The transaction is expected to be announced on Thursday morning.

Alstom will take over the worldwide railway business of the Canadians, whose headquarters are in Berlin, for seven billion euros.

This creates a new large railway technology group with a turnover of around 15 billion euros. Alstom had failed just a year ago due to concerns from the European Competition Commission trying to merge with Siemens Mobility...

So... no more North American owned passenger railcar builders left.

Bombardier's aerospace division is also largely gone as of this month, with the remainder on life support.

Their turboprop business was sold last year to Viking Air/Longview Capital who stood it up as a standalone business resurrecting the De Havilland name (Bombardier bought DHC decades ago just as they bought up Hawker-Siddley in the rail space).

The CS200 business was spun off about two years ago into a joint venture now 75% owned by Airbus and 25% owned by Quebec, and the CRJ regional jet business was sold to Mitsubishi (closing this month).

It's apparently just a matter of negotiations before the Bombardier business jet product line is sold to Textron (who also owns Cessna and Bell Helicopter).

Such a sad fall from being one of the larger transportation heavy manufacturers...

I wonder where the railcars are going to be produced now. Romania? Slovakia? Because Western Europeans have been complaining about Alstom closing the factories in their countries, and now they're going to be closed in Canada as well...

I expect Alstom to retain factories in countries where they do not have a factory in, those being
* Vienna in Austria
* Bruges in Belgium
* Hvidovre in Denmark
* Mátranovák in Hungary
* Dimona in Israel
* Sahagún, Hidaldo in Mexico
* Västerås in Sweden
* Villeneuve in Switzerland
* Derby in the UK
* Pittsburgh, PA in the US (as they manufacture the Automated People Movers)

The leaves out the following factories
* Dangenong, Victoria and East Perth, Western Australia in Australia
* Kingston, Ontario, La Pocatière, Quebec and Thunder Bay, Ontario in Canada
* Qingdao in China
* Crespin in France
* Bautzen, Görlitz, Henningsdorf and Kassel in Germany
* Savli in India
* Vado Ligure in Italy
* Wrocław in Poland
* Pittsburg, CA, Plattsburgh, NY and West Miffin, PA in the US

What I can see happening
* Siemens buying the Crespin, Bautzen, Henningsdorf, Vado Ligure and Wrocław factories.
* Hitachi buying the Görlitz and Kassel factories. Hitachi can also buy the Movia, TRAXX, Talent, Omneo, Flexity, Zefiro and Twindexx designs, as well as the BiLevel Coaches used in the US and Canada and the Double-deck Coach used in Europe. Hitachi Rail Europe can also relocate their headquarters to Berlin.
* Transmashholding buying the Pittsburg CA and Plattsburgh NY factories
* CRRC Qingdao Sifang absorbing Bombardier Sifang (as it was a joint venture between the two)
* The Canadian and Australian factories being purchased by the likes of Hitachi, Stadler and Siemens (I see Hitachi buying the Thunder Bay location, Siemens buying the Kingston location, and Stadler buying the La Pocatière location)
* Integral Coach Factory buying the Savli factory.

I'm not sure why this wasn't posted earlier since it's all over the news but the EU Commission has OFFICIALLY approved the sale of Bombardier Transportation to Alstom! They did make some pretty good products for a time (with some exceptions) and will be missed.

https://www.railwaygazette.com/business ... 85.article
INDUSTRY: Alstom’s proposed acquisition of Bombardier Transportation was approved by the European Commission on July 31, subject to full compliance with a number of commitments offered by Alstom.

‘Thanks to the comprehensive remedies offered to solve the competition concerns in the areas of very high speed, main line trains and main line signalling, the Commission has been able to speedily review and approve this transaction’, said Margrethe Vestager, Executive Vice-President in charge of competition policy.

The acquisition is expected to close in the first half of 2021, subject to further approvals in several other jurisdictions and customary conditions.
