Awesome.

"Private company Boston Surface Railroad says a recent bankruptcy filing was purely strategic. On Monday the company unveiled a bus service that's launching ahead of what will hopefully be full train service at some point in 2021."

Boston Surface Railroad Co. plans to offer express motorcoach passenger service between Providence, Woonsocket and Worcester beginning in February.

Boston Surface Railroad, a privately owned intercity passenger railroad, unveiled the first of five branded motorcoaches in Woonsocket, Rhode Island, Monday morning. The service will be offered out of Union Station at Washington Square.

In addition, the company said it plans to launch passenger rail service between Providence and Woonsocket and Worcester in the fourth quarter of next year.

“As part of our commitment to the city of Woonsocket and to those traveling to these underserved cities, we are pleased to offer the first wave of express passenger service,” Vincent Bono, president of Boston Surface Railroad, said in a release. “Our plan is to launch motorcoach service in mid-February 2020, with an eye toward launching our rail service by the fourth quarter of 2020. We look forward to continuing our promise to commuters.”

Bono unveiled the company’s first motorcoach, which will remain on-site at the historic Woonsocket Train Station. BSRC will add four additional motorcoaches to its inventory prior to launch, with two stationed in Worcester and three in Woonsocket, he said.

Riddle me this one: You're supposedly building a "passenger railroad".. You have zero operating rolling stock and defaulted on one of two used locomotives.. You're obviously in financial "dire straits" as evidenced by a "strategic bankruptcy" and getting booted from "headquarters" for non payment of rent.. Why suddenly, out of the blue lease and wrap a few buses?

Do we actually know whether the B.S. Railroad leased the buses or purchased them outright?

The bus in the photo appears to be an MCI D-Series. Those were built from 1993 to 2001. At best, the bus in the photo could be 18 years old at this point. At worst, it could be 26 years old. That's no big deal for rail vehicles but it's pretty old by highway vehicle standards, especially if the vehicle operated in cold weather states.

For example, here's one for under $20K:

Last I checked, they own an existing locomotive, singular, not plural :P and track upgrades? That’s about the only thing his scheme doesn’t really need.
