Today's Wall Street Journal has a comprehensive and objective article (some within the passenger train advocacy community hold they know not the definition of objectivity) regarding the status of the Avella project. The article simply refers to as Acela:

Fair Use:
The future of American high-speed rail is sitting in a building older than the Battle of Gettysburg: a cavernous factory that holds the first shells of a $2 billion fleet of Amtrak Acela trains due to begin running from Washington, D.C., to Boston two years from now.

Even as Congress moves toward renewed debates over the future of both Amtrak and high-speed rail, the first of 28 new Acela train sets are starting to take shape here. They are the first new generation of passenger trains on the railroad since the Acela’s debut in 2000.

For Amtrak, that means a chance to relaunch a service that has been both a commercial success and a procurement headache—and still the nearest approximation in the U.S. to the high-speed trains that whisk travelers among major cities in Europe and Asia..
Let us hope that the boondoggle sixty six miles to the East does not have "fallout" on this equipment.

Believe Hornell was the home to "Super Steel" and their EMD partnership on the DE/DM 30's.
This was also the rebuild shop for the Empire service turbos, under the "Super Steel" banner.

Amtrak seems to retaining the Acela name,The original sets are now Acela I's ,the first generation.
The Liberty sets could be refereed to as Acela II's,as the next generation cars for this service.

Saw the report on the local news. Looks like they hid some of the coach designs in the report as well. Do we have the floor plans on these cars?

Interestingly, they're going with body mounted traction motors, it looks like. IIRC, the Acelas have truck mounted ones.

I'm wondering how much of this design is Amtrak getting the Acela's many flaws fixed, and how much was Alstom telling them "this is what you get"?

Have any actual solid technical specs been released on the design, yet?
