I came across an article as linked below regarding an application for a Federal grant with the National Trade Corridors Fund (Canada equivalent of BUILD grant?) by the towns of Farnham, Bromont and Sherbrooke in conjunction with the one of the MPs in Canada to upgrade the line from Saint-Jean-Sur-Richelieu to Sherbrooke to Passenger rail standards .

I suspect in this case given the stakeholders mentioned, there is a relatively decent possibility this corridor could see significant improvement for passenger rail (taking into account too the proximity of Sherbrooke to Montreal). Also it would appear from the translated text that the relocation of Farnham yard would be on the table. Bromont had previously in separate articles mentions opening an intermodal facility, so speculatively an opportunity to accomplish that (my opinion) here as well assuming they can line up funding. But like most things Government related, we probably won't know for a few years

Yes, the CMQ operates over former CP (CAR) tracks as well as former BAR tracks. The western end of CMQ trackage is where CP ownership of the Adirondack Sub ends in St-Jean-sur-Richelieu Quebec. However, CMQ may still have trackage rights to operate all the way into St Luc.
