The circa-1930s LV partial map for Canastota I have shows just a turntable. 1955 Aerial indicates the same; it's a sharp enough photo that I would think a foundation would show up. I don't know that there would be room for any engine storage there, between the road, the creek and other structures. There is a section house or tool shed of some sort in the aerial photo but it's too small for a locomotive and not positioned to allow entry anyhow.

You can still find the foundation ring in current Google images.


To me it makes sense to indicate which ones are still active so I don't have to spend hours looking at each possible one to find one still in use.

Go back up to Scot's post and he links to the original list he gleamed from this forum. At the bottom is what you're looking for. That way you don't need to waste your hours. I just created this thread to share a list I expanded upon (of which I participated in the earlier list on this forum). This isn't North Korea. I'm not forcing you to go through each coordinate. And I'm not giving a test later.

As for Canastota, see below. I look at maps and read books dealing with dates back to the 1850s. You're looking at 100+ years of land change. Easy to erase where a building sat, harder but not impossible to erase where the TT was. Most TTs lasted much longer than the engine house itself, when they were paired.

I never found three (assume you mean LV?). I found one reused with new buildings built. So it was effectively 3 roundhouses with 2 turntables.

And that's not anything. The DL&W TT was in the SW quadrant of the crossing. See the DL&W list.

So that's 2 LV and 1 DL&W. Any others. I have another DL&W there I'm working on but haven't gotten to it yet. It' sup north.

OK, let me try again - I didn't do a great job the first time ... I found the two LV and one DL&W as you have so noted - no issue with those and I've actually been to all three sites. The DL&W is (was) in the SW quadrant of the junction. My question is: what (if anything) is in the NW quadrant? Let's call it a crop circle. The crop circle appears in the last 50+ years of aerials. Do you know? I don't. I'm not a local to Cortland and not familiar with Cortland history. If it's nothing, then it's nothing.

In any event, keep up the good work. This is a fascinating topic!

That circle is just from turning trucks. I've never found a single thing on any map or ETT that lists a TT up in that quadrant. The interchange tracks were in that quad. If you go back to the 1894 birds eye view, there is still nothing there.

Because I never found anything, I just assumed it was from turning the trucks around in front of the dairy. The dairy was there for a long time.
