Interesting sight today at the North Falmouth crossing as MC 2010 was pushing a lone MC Energy car out to the UCRTS. Thought Cavossa was all done with MSW or maybe something else is up. Will see if I can catch the return trip as to what's outgoing today.

Caught the return from UCRTS and had 3 cars of C&D to ship off Cape and had left the 1 MC Energy car normally used for shipments to SEMASS at UCRTS. So is MSW starting back up perhaps or maybe just getting rid of some trash mixed in with the C&D loads received at the transfer station ?

Definitely the latter. He needs to keep a MSW car or 2 on hand to pick the trash out of the C/D. He's told me if it were up to him he wouldn't do any MSW, just straight C/D.

And Semass is still undergoing maintenance repairs this week so a lot of trash is being dump at CMW landfill.

On the photo of clearing the crossing you'll notice orange mesh material coming off the back of the last car and it was dragging on the tracks behind it for about 15 feet. You might want to let Cavossa know about that and to pass on to Mass Coastal as well to make sure the loads are secured, as it could have gotten snagged on something, possibly ending up pulling debris out of the car. I'm sure the local bike path activist's would jump on that to complain about debris on the ROW, seeing that they aren't too happy about the tracks staying in place.

Looks like car ID #'s in the Mansfield fire match the photo's of the UCRTS cars I had taken in Pocasset on Tuesday 5/1. Cavossa will probably get a visit from MassDEP about that if indeed it is confirmed that they originated at the UCRTS facility. Yet it does happen as mixed materials in large amounts do self ignite under the right conditions, as the Bourne Landfill C&D transfer station and others know well from the fires that have occurred at there locations over the past few years.

Read another article on the C&D rail car Fire in Mansfield and is under investigation but also mentioned that it may have been caused by a electrical problem with the overhead wire on the track catenary system.

According to a responder on the scene, after the fire cars were pulled in to Mansfield Yard, separated and extinguished by around 13h00, two other cars rolled over off the track further up the yard, which took until evening to clear. Area was very tied up by a looong trash train headed by three CSX GP40s(?).

Can anyone shine some light?

Should be more C&D Rail shipments from Cavossa / UCRTS as the Town of Bourne Landfill C&D operations are shut down until July 2nd due to poor Budget planning.

Cavossa / UCRTS transfer station article with good news about operation and Falmouth Secondary Rail use. Also Bourne landfill C&D operations resumed this past week with approved funding, which will take some of the load off UCRTS. Be sure to read the comments from readers on the Cavossa article as the Bike path activists are ranting about it already ! They just don't get it especially since MassDOT / Cape Cod commission are working on a Rail with trail concept to address that very issue.

That is why the Rails to Trail people are not trustworthy. Once trails are in place, they will fight against RAILS. If someone decided to build a manufacturing plant in Wellfleet which would bring 1500 high paying jobs to the town and increase the tax base, but the plant needs rail service, the RTT people would fight it. I've seen it done before...

Hope the Friends of the Bourne Rail trail enjoy watching a new RR crossing being installed on Barlow's landing Rd in Pocasset starting this Wednesday & continuing into Friday afternoon. Nothing like a dose of reality to confirm that the tracks are there to stay no matter how much they rant about it !

The JF White contract looks like significant track upgrade, from 80# rail for example with re-lay. Wonder what effect this will have on track speed for the Cape Flyer [OT]

The Flyer doesn't fly on anything less than 107.
