Q: has Pan Am implemented PTC equipment on any its locomotives yet? At least a few that operate through MBTA territory need to have such gear operational by end of 2018. On a somewhat related note, I believe that MBTA/Keolis is responsible for PTC implementation on Pan Am track between Fitchburg and Wachusett but latest MBTA status report filed with FRA indicates no installation progress as yet. Have any wood poles for hanging PTC fibre optic cabling been installed in that neighborhood yet?

No PTC has been installed on any Pan Am engines yet, the NS runthrough power into Ayer regularly features engines equipped with PTC.

NS, CSX, and other US freight RRs' locomotives are being outfitted with I-ETMS PTC while the MBTA is implementing ACSES II based PTC. Pan Am and MBTA agreed formally in 2014 (with then MBTA GM Beverly Scott) that:
- the PAS-owned track between Wachusett and Fitchburg and the MBTA owned track between Fitchburg and CPF-WL Ayer would have both I-ETMS and ACSES II PTC technology installed, permitting NS and other freight RR locomotives that regularly appear on NS trains 22K/23K/28N/287 to run under I-ETMS to CPF-WL at Ayer.
- MBTA would pay for the outfitting of I-ETMS/ACSES II on a select Pan Am locomotives that run on the MBTA (eg, EDPO/POED/SEPO/POSE/locals)

But in 2016 MBTA elected not to pursue I-ETMS wayside and equipment work. And I believe that MBTA is committing to install only ACSES II on 25 Pan Am locomotives (per the MBTA's Q417 PTC progress report filed with the FRA). See photo of relevant article snip-it.

Here's a link to the full September 2017 article decribing Pan Am and MBTA's claims/counterclaims:

So I think Pan Am and MBTA remain at legal loggerheads re: PTC implementation, but I hope I'm wrong...

At this point nothing is posted on any C40-8Ws on the STB recordation page. Not questioning the validity of the other posts, just making an observation.

6 total coming.
KSmitty:
Here is the recordation of the 3400s:
https://www.stb.gov/recordations.nsf/ec ... /31745.pdf
If that link doesn't work, search the stb recordations for file 31745.

Here's the one for the C40s and B40s:

If that link doesn't work search the stb recordations for file 32712.

GE just released a video promoting their new emphasis on supplying used locomotives to shortline and regional railroads. The video features several Pan Am employees and a lot of footage from East Deerfield:

Unfortunately the video is already "Removed by the user". Bummer.
