Not only was the inaugural ball held in Richmond's landmark 1901-built station originally serving Seaboard Air Line and Chesapeake & Ohio passengers, but Gov. Ralph Northam, a Democrat, arrived on Norfolk Southern executive passenger cars pulled by NS locomotives, Nos. 5079 and 3526, a GP38-2 and an SD40-2, respectively.
Nice footage of this private train, which in addition to the impeccably shiny hood units (surprised to see them and not the Fs, but oh well) included office cars Claytor Lake and, even more fitting, Virginia. The new governor was also accompanied by Lt. Gov. Justin Fairfax, Atty. Gen. Mark Herring, and their families - I’d be willing to bet there were some NS officials aboard to talk both freight and passenger investment too, but didn’t notice them on the tape.
