On the return trip downriver a short detour was taken into Fort Meadow Brook. After reaching Sudbury Road I continued downriver to Crow Island where a Mylar balloon drew me to the Gardner Hill side of the river. Turning about from that locale provided this glimpse of the "Crow Island Caboose"...

The caboose was trucked into the airfield by the owner. That was years after the tracks were removed from that part of the Marlborough Branch, now part of the Assabet River Rail Trail. Although the airfield is private property, it's open to the public a couple of times a year for fly-ins, letting you get much closer to the caboose.

Check schedule for visiting dates/hours; they’re fine with public inquiries on certain days - looking to expand the airfield. New hangers are sprouting..
At the risk of veering wildly off topic, I'm wondering about the permitting IAW 310 CMR 10.00 (Wetlands Protection Act), given the proximity to the river and wetlands.
