They did not disable working d/b on the 600's when purchased.
345 & 616 both came back from GATX funded rebuild with good dynamics.
Dynamics, if in working order on lease units are not disabled.

However, they do not spend any money maintaining dynamics, so when something breaks they just tag it as such.

12.14.16, 8:30 am, westbound Pan Am train on track 2, passed the Mountain Branch heading to Rigby with what looked like 'new' power leading 3 other Pan Am units, all elephant style.
The lead engine was 3109, lease id on cab, newly painted in Pan Am's blue. No Pan am graphics on it.

3109 has been painted as such for a few years. Might have just been washed.

If they do end up getting some GEs, that'll be good news regarding dynamic brakes because GE DB is more reliable,* less trouble-prone, and more effective than that of the EMD 40-series.


*obviously anything can break, and they do require some maintenance from time to time

Assuming they don't just disable them like they did on the majority of their engines (or they don't have any weird electrical glitches like one of the 3400s where the ditch lights shut off when using DB).

C40-8s are beginning to ship from LTE. Number series is GECX 9000-9023. The units are NOT painted at this point, only blacklined CSX with the GECX number sprayed on the side. No pics yet that I've seen, but this info has been verified through two trusted sources. There are 24 of them, not 20.

Technically it is, but they rarely make it east of Waterville, let alone NMJ. As for being put in service, they still need to have the numboards changed out to the correct numbers (at the very least). I believe they're waybilled to Waterville, so we'll see what happens.
