Here's a fun article from a month back:
https://www.dnainfo.com/new-york/201606 ... ocals-warn" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Bushwick near the tracks was a no-mans land. Now there's a large beer garden opening by the footbridge on Scott ave, and there's some other club called 'brooklyn mirage' on the other side of the tracks (which was closed soon after it opened, since it is constructed almost entirely of scaffolding - I kid you not).

It used to be that only people with severe mental issues or drug habits would want to be anywhere near them stinky tracks. Now... it's kids with money. I guess if you're drunk or high you don't notice the smell from the trash cubes...

No loss of customers, but that ibz status doesn't seem to restrict bars and nightclubs. There is a beer garden opening at scott ave (at the end of the footbridge) and there was suppose to be a nightclub called 'brooklyn mirage' opening on the other side. The mirage though was swiftly shut down by the city since it is a structure largely made of scaffolding.

This isn't anything more than politicians crying about the RR... if they were really worried they would deny the bars & clubs a liquor license.

Liquor licenses means more money for the city. As to complaining aobout the railroad, ;et's not forget that this city has a road vehicle mentality. Most people are clueless as to how much road congestion and air pollution get reduced by running trains.

True, but the liquor license thing was used against 'the knockdown center' - another event space in a former factory closer to bushwick jct.

The average citizen here really doesn't know crap about how good the RR is for the city. Moving all that MSW out of town via truck would cost millions more and require a literal army of trucks and drivers.

Wasn't there an issue of having to keep an eye out for johns getting serviced in the ROW back in the day? I know it was a running joke in the pre-NYA era. Account of the speed limit and the real fear of how bad the tracks were (no idea what it's like now), unless it was a pair of turtles, there was plenty of time for the deed to be done, get cleaned up, flip off the crew and walk away.
