When the jackals(*) -- I mean CSX and NS -- pulled the corpse of Conrail to bits, NS got 58 of Conrail's 1600-class GP15-1. None are currently on NS's roster. What happened to them? Did they find new homes elsewhere? Were they scrapped? Are they rusting in some locomotive dealer's backlot?

Looking at the U.P. roster at thedieselshop.us
it looks as if U.P. still has most of Missouri Pacific's large fleet of GP-15. Looking at the BNSF roster, it looks as if they have only a couple of the ex-Frisco GP-15.

Similar questions.

(I would have thought that these locomotives would have been very popular with shoreline operators…)

Many have been sold to lessors and leased to short lines.
While somewhat disorganized, the rrpicturearchives order rosters are a great help in this.
SLSF units: http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/orderL ... 76&mfg=EMD
CR units: http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/orderL ... 49&mfg=EMD
CNW units: http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/orderL ... 42&mfg=EMD
A lot of the NS units went to LTEX and GMTX.

One of the ex-NS exx-CR GP15-1s was recently repainted for GATX by Pan Am's ex-MEC locomotive shop. I just wish the number was one digit higher... :wink:

…Using it to track down Missouri Pacific's fleet is, of course, harder, because their GP15 weren't all built on the same order. For a start, however, the last ones-- the 1982 GP15AC -- are here:
http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/orderL ... 16&mfg=EMD" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
(Most of them having, as the most recent identity on the list, UPY with a number one thousand less than the original MP number. So this part of the fleet seems to be still in service with the corporate successor of their original operator.)
