It would appear that Mr. Bigda's interests have turned to Vertex Rail
Manufacturing. See the thread New Mass Rail Car Builder!..

The day these guys get their little "trail" is the day I'll sit back and wonder what has happened to society. From the rumors I've heard going around the mill the town has already told them no on two separate occasions, so I have some serious doubts that these guys would get anywhere...

Everything about that little rail line is fascinating. It's weird how the proposed rail project seemed to be happening, then...radio silence. I assume there have been meetings of the railroad board - would these be public meetings?

I'd like to see more about the 12/31/1935 one-year lease (signed by the NYC on the last day of the previous BA lease). Did this lease keep getting annually renewed up through Penn Central? Note that lease excluded passenger service!

I'm surprised the documents for the end of the Penn Central aren't online. I'd like to read what was written when the NBRR was abandoned or OOS. And how the estates of the other railroads that were leased were handled. I'm assuming the line was closed and ripped up about 1972, but can't find that anywhere. All the STB stuff is online but these important ICC cases aren't.

Nobody has spoken authoritatively about the status of the ROW in East Brookfield.

When did the town acquire the remaining 10% of the RR that they didn't own?

The last I knew, the town of North Brookfield still holds the charter and owns the ROW into East Brookfield. And Mr. Bigda is leasing it. Just because it's dormant we don't know what is going on with all parties. That's how businesses work. I would say that to allow a rail trail would open up liability issues for all parties should there be any incident. It is still railroad property subject to all applicable laws, state and federal.

Well, haven't found the charter yet but I did find this:

Are you sure about that? I just went to http://www.vertexrail.com/ and it came up just fine.. Unless somehow Verizon is fetching a cached copy..

That's really weird; I tried a different browser & it worked, so I refreshed the page in firefox & it worked. So, the website is presently working.

I'm betting it's an issue with Verizon. We have it at our office for our phone and internet in Shrewsbury, and they've been messed up all week. I've got some similar reports from some of our customers in Westboro as well... Because, you know, an HVAC company can't read minds and needs to hear from customers to know if they need oil or have no heat.

If it is, I'm glad my area didn't experience it (just about 1km. north of Wayside Inn Station on the Central Mass Branch).. Hope for you guys it gets fixed soon.

The error was something like "network solutions. Domain name not valid". Others could not reproduce the problem, and a page refresh fixed it for me.

So it's working.
