These videos were taken in 2006. They are both two videos spliced into one. The second one is my longest video taken at 13 minutes!

Here's my last two videos of the year. They are both J Train videos. The first one is a RFW ride on an R42 from Crescent St to Cleveland St while bypassing Norwood Ave due to station work at the time. The second one is on the last leg of the J Train from Canal St to Broad St. These videos were taken in 2006/2007 respectively.

Ah yes, how I miss that R-40/Slant (B-train) front-window ride from Manhattan over the Manhattan Bridge thru DeKalb Interlocking to Brighton beach........... Took my last R-40 ride on that route in 2008, just before the R-40's were deep-sixed. Hard to believe it's been almost 6 years since the "death" of that ride on those cars.

These videos were taken from the RFW of an R32 E train on the 8th Ave line. They were both taken in 2007. The first one is a RFW ride from 23rd St to 34th St and the second one is a RFW ride between 50th St and 7th Ave. They are both pretty short but I rarely take long videos.

My last ride on an R40 was 5 years ago on the 8th Ave local. I'm not sure when my last ride on the R40s on the Brighton was but it had to be around 2008. They were fun on the Brighton Express, also rode them on the Diamond Q quite a bit. :-D

Here a some videos I recently uploaded. The first one is one of my more recent ones. It was taken in 2009 and is a ride at the RFW of an R42 F train from 34th Street Herald Square to W4th Street. The R42s ran for a short time on the E and F trains in the late 2000's. The second one was taken in 2006 an is a ride at the RFW of an R38 C train from Canal Street to W4th Street. It's my only R38 video.

These videos were both taken in 2007 respectively. The first one is of a ride on the Jamaica Line from Woodhaven Blvd and Cypress Hills; the second one is of a ride on the Myrtle Ave elevated from Myrtle-Wyckoff Ave to Fresh Pond Rd. I probably have a few more R42 videos but I'm trying to decide whether or not to upload them.

These videos were both taken in 2008 respectively. The first on is a RFW video of an R40 B train shortly before it was retired. It is of a ride between Kings Highway and Newkirk Plaza on the Brighton Line in Brooklyn. The ride was quite fast to say the least. The second video is a ride on the Flushing Line at the RFW of an R62A train. The video was taken at the end of 2008, although it isn't noticeable but Shea Stadium was undergoing demolition at the time.

Nice! I really miss the R40s. I always used to ride them home after school when I was younger and that video brings back lots of memories :P . Thank god the transit museum takes them out of hiding some Christmases when the holiday train is squealing down the M line.

Tj, you're an R-40/Slant fan? This was my favorite subway car of all time even though it was not well liked by the TA and there were only about 300 of them built. I still remember the first time I ever saw and rode on one as a teenager, boarding it on the F-Line at the Union Tpke. station in the Spring of 1968. it must have been one of the first ones in-service. Compared to the R-1 thru 9's that owned the E/F lines at that time, it was like stepping aboard the Space Shuttle! It was real sad seeing them getting "reefed" after they were retired a few years back. Last one I rode was in 2008 on the Brighton Express.

I last rode an R40 in early 2009. They were fun to ride. I have great memories riding the Diamond Q back in 2003-2004. They may have had the worst seats in the system but to a Railfanner, it doesn't matter. :-)

I rode my first R40 on the B in the late '80s when I rode the B on a regular basis ( weekends to the brooklyn shore--7 train to 5 ave. bryant and then a B to Brighton Beach. I'd wander places from there). I gave up with that routine when most of my priorities began to shift northward. I switched to the N and later W lines. But, once the R40s finally left the BMT Bway trains, I never got on one again (until the Museum put the pair on display). Is the museum going to preserve 4460-4665 (whatever # combination it is)? I've always liked the slant of rhe R40s. The only reason I'm a railfan was because i did some research about the R40 slants, then got sucked into all sorts of subway cars.

I recently read somewhere that the R-40/Slant was an attempt by the NYCTA to imitate the then new PA-1 PATH cars. The TA had apparently caught on to the Port Authority's idea of designing a visually attractive train to help promote ridership. The idea was right, and the train was aesthetically pleasing, but for well known reasons, not very practical in the New York Subway.

It's also been suggested that had the R-40/Slants been designed with the same A-B-B-A configuration of the later R-44/46's, (instead of married-pairs) the slant design might have been more successful, as most of the cars would have had standard ends to simplify passing between cars, which was permitted in those days.

And Frank, you're right about those R-40 seats. The backs were too short, unlike the previous seats used on other cars of the 1960's.
