This thread is for the discussion of the operations, equipment, and history of the Saratoga & North Creek Railway, operators of the former Delaware & Hudson Adirondack Branch, part of which was operated by the Upper Hudson River Railroad and by Canadian Pacific Railway. Any relevant news stories posted from outside sources require a link to the original article plus a brief "fair-use" quote.

San Luis & Rio Grande (Iowa Pacific) 1394, a former Great Northern full dome, is sitting outside West Albany yard today. Does anybody have an idea about it's destination? If it is headed to Amtrak in Rensselaer, it's a rare move.

Here are a couple of articles on what is going on at the Saratoga & North Creek Railway.

I hope you enjoy them.

The Post Star article mentions, "Contract with Canadian Pacific Railway for trains to go from Warren County's line to the port of Albany." Does this mean trackage rights for SNC trains to access the port or CP handling the trains to the port?
Thanks,
Don

This has been confirmed to me by a SNC employee. Locomotive is in primer but is supposedly in operating condition.

Freight business coming to the Saratoga & North Creek

Does anyone have details?
See griffs20soccer's post earlier on this page and the links it has. ALso relevant posts in the 2013 thread. In short, SNC want to haul the stone from tailings at the Tawahus (spelling?) mine at their far north end to sell it for construction stone. They have a few potential deals in the works, and have given rumors of 5000 cars per YEAR [EDIT: NOT PER WEEK] or more, starting in spring (I know, it is hard to believe). THey are negotiating with CP to take it from Saratoga to wherever - one possibility has it going to Albany to be transloaded to barge (maybe to go to Long Island)?? Most of this info is from announcements by the SNC general manager. I don't think there have been announcements of hard deals or signed contracts, however. We'll all believe it when the trains are actually rolling... JS
