They've been parts sources for a while, but are pretty intact. We had a buyer recently who was interested in them.

Hey Rudy (or anybody!),

Seems SW1 #738 was headed west on CSX train Q377 yesterday (1/15/14) and was questioned
in the New York State forum.

Whereabouts is this elderly switcher heading?

Thanks!

Charlie

It's going to St. Louis, MO - it has been sold by RRPX to a new owner.

Don't know. This likely is not the place to ask that.

To my knowledge,RRPX never was a subsidiary of the M&E although the owner of RRPX has a financial interest in the M&E and is the chief executive of the M&E. I don't believe anything is planned for the locomotives that you list except perhaps one of the 42xx. It was reported elsewhere recently that one of the 42xx was up on blocks and being stripped of parts. 2338 reportedly was purchased as a parts unit. 77 and 3660 have cracked blocks from their days on the NYS&W so they are not going anywhere fast.

I was curious on wether there has been any progress on C424 4204 returning to service?

mandealco wrote:A question about the 4204: It appears to be an ungraded unit, done by CP Rail at Angus. Several CP C-424's received Alternators from retired M-630/636s for the last few years of service. They can be distinguished by the third air tank, and the duct on top of the central air intake hatch. The third tank is required for the air start I believe, as they lost the electric start with the generator removal. Anyway, my question is, why the purchase, when M&E / RRPX sold 2 other modified CP C-424's to the WNYP? I understand the ownership similarities, but the purchase is unexpected, unless for more parts for RRPX.
Not sure what the idea with 4204 was. It's mechanically operable, but there's essentially no electronics left as RRPX purchased the engine after an aborted electronic upgrade. It'd be like having a car with no headlights, radio, windshield wipers, or gears other than neutral. That being said, it's too intact to be a parts source yet - I don't know what the plans are exactly.
NBEC/SFEX the former owner of the 4204 had started an upgrade program of their former CP RS18u's giving them upgraded -3 electronics and hooking up their dynamic brakes again. There had been talk of the railway doing the same thing to their C424's and when I read about the lack of electronics I wondered if it was going to be the first of the -3 equipped C424 fleet.

A link to which CP C424's had the alternator upgrade. http://trainiax.net/mephase-alcoc424.php" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Correct. Two separate companies. The M&E leases equipment from RRPX - hence the association between the two, but they are in no way linked on a corporate or financial level.

Nope. Still stored. Nothing planned yet.
