Hello,

Both west and east-bound Phoebe Snow trains had the drum-head at the rear of the last car. During
Erie Lackawanna days, the last car was "tavern-lounge" cars 789 and 790 but as you can see in the 1st
photo below, these aren't drum-heads. 2nd photo was at the 2001 Hoboken Festival

Was there only two drum heads made for eastbound and one for westbound Phoebe Snow ? And if so was the one on the back of the train at the Holbolken festival in 2001 a original or a reproduction ?

Those questions I do not know the answer to, maybe someone else has those answers.

The photos above were turned up by using a Google search. My advice? Take a peek around the
forums and also some searches on Google and what-not. Who knows what will turn up! ;-)

Im pretty sure the drumhead in this photo:

Image

Has nothing to do with the actual, historic Phoebe Snow train..
looks like its just a modern creation..

Phoebe Snow, the female advertising figure invented by the DL&W, dates way to back to about 1900..
she appeared in advertisements for the DL&W going back that far, and on into the mid 20th Century.
However there was no train called "The Phoebe Snow" until 1949!
And it was always the one modern, streamlined version..
So there was probably only ever one actual Phoebe Snow "drumhead" at the end of the Phoebe Snow train..this one:

Not really a "drumhead" in the traditional sense..but that's all there was on the train.
Im 98% sure the version in the first photo, on the blue passenger car, is not historically accurate..

Looking at some newspaper articles from the late 1960's in the Jamestown, NY area there is a picture of the Phoebe snow heading westbound with the two square "heads" on it. So I'm assuming that there were two "heads" on the end of the train for both directions in the DL&W days as well as in the EL days.

Yes, the photo in scottychaos's post above is how both trainsets appeared on the DL&W and EL.
