As of yesterday I saw only 5 units left on NS still in blue. And only 3 sd50's left in blue. CSX has 3 blue units left but 2 are parts units and 1 is in storage so none are active.

What are numbers of the three CSX units still in blue?

According to the "Bullsheet" locomotive roster, SD40-2 #8865 (ex-6521) is still in blue. Having said that, I'm
not sure how well they keep it properly updated.

8865 is correct. Also gp38-2 #2758 (parts unit) and gp38 #7720 (original conrail number... also a parts unit) this information is from the conrail quarterly magazine.

CR 7720 was scrapped last year on site.

CSX SD40-2 #8865 still remains there in Conrail Quality:

and CSX GP38-2 #2758 is a parts unit awaiting torch:

According to the latest info from the NSdash9 website there are just 3 loco's left in blue on norfolk southern's roster. #5424 is the last SD50 in blue. And 8305 and 8312 (dash 8's) remain in blue also. I know those last two engines have had work done, I imagine when all is said and done they'll get repainted before being sent out in service. Or perhaps maybe a couple of test runs before the repaint?

So unless I'm wrong 5424 is the last active blue loco in class 1 service?

Technically not the last CR blue on the NS roster..
although it will be the last to actually operate in blue..
but there are still others in CR blue in the "rebuild" line at Roanoke,
they are not currently operating, but they are still on the roster.

Three total units are still in CR blue on NS..All three are destined to be rebuilt, and repainted:

EMD SD50 5424 (the last to operate with NS in CR blue)
GE C40-8 8305 (still in blue, in the rebuild line at Roanoke)
GE C40-8 8312 (still in blue, in the rebuild line at Roanoke)

should we start tracking down what's left in Conrail Blue on other railroads next?? or kill this trend once the last of them between NS and CSX are gone?

That's fine with me........we can still track Conrail-blue units wherever they are, be it on Class-1 railroads, short lines or anywhere. ;-)

well we could start with Finger Lakes Railway B23-7's 1943 and 1989 still being in Conrail Blue

FGLK 1989:

FGLK 1943:
http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPi ... id=3403025" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

(For both those units, the current FGLK road number is also their original Conrail number)

Genesee & Wyoming GP38 Number 50 (now operating with the Rochester & Southern)
is still wearing her CR blue almost 30 years after leaving Conrail! she has been operating with
the G&W/R&S since 1985! Originally PC/CR 7844, she is based in Rochester, NY:
http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPi ... id=3434395" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Another G&W locomotive (now operating in Buffalo NY with the Buffalo & Pittsburgh)
is G&W 1002, an EMD SW1001, originally Reading 2623.
http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPi ... id=3261344" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

GMTX 97, another Reading SW1001, still operating in Fort Worth, Texas:
http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPi ... id=2779041" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
still technically in CR blue, although idiots with spray paint have been in the vicinity:
http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPi ... id=3504183" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

and..technically we arent finished with Conrail blue in Class-1 service!

BNSF GP38 2047, PRSL/PC/CR 2010:
http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPi ... id=3453925" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

BNSF GP38 2049, PC/CR 7927:
http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPi ... id=3409460" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

HLCX SD40-2 6332:
http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPi ... id=3589798" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

GMTX GP38-2 2676:
http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPi ... id=3522152" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

That's nine! :)
I bet we can find dozens more still operating in lease service and with shortlines.
It wouldn't surprise me if the number is 50 to 100 units still out there in blue..
