I was just looking at the birds eye view on www.local.live.com of the Trenton Cutoff bridge over the Septa R2 Warminster Line in the Hatboro PA area. The R2 line crosses under on the left of the center support. What was the right side built for? Additional track?

The Trenton Cut-off was double tracked up until Conrail single tracked
in the 1980's. So that may explain the extra support.

Yes, I saw where it was double track in the past. I was not referring to the bridge width, rather the length. It's too long to have been built just to straddle one single rail line.

My guess is provision for a future or long abandoned highway. The other half is already wide enough for a future extra track on the Warminster Branch.
