This is from a PRR timetable of September 1, 1929 -- never saw this before:

"Checking Hand Baggage from Manhattan Transfer to Hotels or Residences in New York City, or to Pennsylvania Station Check Room -- A Convenience for Passengers Going to Downtown New York.

Passengers arriving Manhattan Transfer between the hours of 6:20 A.M. and 9:45 A.M. (Eastern Standard Time), on trains from Pittsburgh and the West, can be relieved of the care of their hand baggage -- if going to downtown New York via Hudson Terminal -- by delivering such baggage to the special checking booth provided for this purpose at Manhattan Transfer. Such hand baggage will be checked to the inbound baggage room at Pennsylvania Station, New York -- to be called for at leisure -- without charge, or will be delivered to any hotel or residence in New York by the New York Transfer Company at the regular charge of 90 cents per piece. [Nothing about trains from south of Washington]
...
This service has been established to permit passengers going to the downtown business section to devote their time to the day's activities without inconvenience or delay in disposing of their hand baggage."

I suppose the baggage was put aboard the next train for Penn Station.
