So far the count is:

7 NYC E8's
16 PRR E8's
1 PRR E7

total of 24 E-units.
I would consider that quite a lot actually!
of course "a lot" is relative..

I'm 99% sure that all NYC and PRR F units were scrapped..however there's that 1% chance there's one..sitting someone forgotten by time.

I'd never think that there was an IHB steamer sitting out in the maine woods or a PRR Shark B-Unit converted to a generator unit would lastat a coal mine until the 90's..and here we are today.

Ok, I just found another report on the "Loconotes" group that ex NYC 2882 may be the Georgia Central's 1001.

xPRR (GP-9's) 7019 & 7028 to septa 90 & 91. In 1999 to Heart of Dixie Museum Calara AL. I havent found any current museum roster with these 2 on it.
