Hello all,

On our caboose (class NE-5/NE-6), exx-NYNH&H C-618, ex-PC/CR 19882, there is a large sticker below the coupola, and I am wondering what it ment to the PC.

The sticker is located between two layers of the PC Green, it is a trapazoid with rounded top corners, the top is 10 inches wide, bottom is 20" wide and it is 32 inches tall. The sticker is all black except for two white pinstripes going up both sides (4 lines total) and merging as they go around the curve in the top corners. It is located on the exterior in the area between the Toilet and the Stove.

I have yet to come across a photo that shows this sticker, does anyone have a clue?

Regards,

SRS, it's not likely to find a PRR Keystone on a New Haven caboose.

That does not sound like anything official. Many times a conductor would decorate his caboose with some unique item or design. Sometimes this was just on a whim, other times it was to help locating that particular caboose at a glance, that being back in the time when there were many cabooses around any yard.

scharnhorst,

Too tall, wrong shape and upside down, the top end is the narrow end with rounded corners.

Anyone have the caboose assignment logs? Where did the 19882 travel durring the PC years?

During the late 1970's, PC19882 was the regular caboose assigned to the Clinton Secondary track, operating on the local between Clinton and Lenawee Junction, Michigan.

If you can dig up the January 1978 edition of "Rail Classics" magazine, you'll find photos of it in service.

This line was later taken over by the Southern Michigan Railroad Society, and they acquired the former Conrail 19851 and repainted it as PC19882!
