Besides outside appearances and different MU connections, what were other differences between H16-44s placed in service in 1951 (e.g., 594 & 596) and those placed in service in 1956 (e.g., 1611)? Did the later use GE electrica equipment instead of Westinghouse?

No road numbers are shown for the DERS-2c locomotives.

Thank you, David, for compiling this roster.

I have some photos of New Haven STATE, POINT and BEACH series cars in parlor car service on the LIRR, in the late 1960s thru 1976 era.

You will find the POINT and BEACH series cars at

http://www.dominionrailvoyages.com/jhd/lirr/page1.html

and the STATE series cars at

http://www.dominionrailvoyages.com/jhd/ ... state.html

I think I particularly like the first photo of the former CITY POINT (then LIRR "MERRICK") at Patchogue on a cold morning in January 1972 http://www.dominionrailvoyages.com/jhd/ ... rrick.html

I assume you are talking about CR 45907

http://nictd1000.rrpicturearchives.net/ ... ?id=885748

Here is what I think ... if you delete the first two digits of the car number, you are left with 907 ... NH 907 was a 48 seat diner named JOHN CARVER ... the car in the photo appears to be a diner, with the usual window pattern on the kitchen side of the car, and it is riding on six wheel trucks ... So I suspect it is the former NH 907 JOHN CARVER.

David-
Any idea as to what happened with NH RDC-1 #29, and whether or not #41 was salvageable from the 1966 West Roxbury wreck ? I have pictures of both on this thread. Thanks.

The #41 RDC-1 (New Haven RR) is well and restored as of 1999. It is presently on the way to Lincoln, NH for additional work. Much of the original damage to the car in the 66' wreck has been corrected. There is some remaining minor damage that cannot be corrected.

On another note, Paul, I have seen your pictures of the #41 car on the net, and would like larger copies for my files.
Can you email me?
Thanks,

Hi Jim-
I just sent you the two photos that I have of the #41 at the site of the 1966 West Roxbury wreck off Gardner Street. That car took a roll on it's side after negotiating a tight turn off a switch unintentionally. The switch had been thrown by area kids prior to the Needham Budd train coming through there at speed, bound for South Station. As a result of being thrown on its side, there was a lot of underbody damage and most of the injuries were in this car. These photos were taken after a RR crane had righted the car and placed it on a stub off the main. I know of a certain 15 year old boy who after hearing about the crash in Washington Irving's 9th grade class, took it upon himself to investigate the car inside and out. Outside had extensive damage but inside was ghastly with broken glass, blood, and thrown debris everywhere. I'm not sure if there were fatalities on board, but frankly, from the look of things, I would be surprised if there weren't. I would love to see the #41 in better times. Please let me know when it's out and about.

The 29 didn't show up in any of my searches for survivors. If it exists it is likely to be in the form of "Boise Budd" rebuild.
See the NHRHTA site http://www.nhrhta.org, under Surviving Motive Power for the list as of a few years ago.
