Folks,

I was watching numerous videos on Youtube of intermodal trains from different railroads.

This video caught my eye with the different types of intermodal cars;

Specifically, the 2 last trains, on with a former UP SD40-2 and the other lead by a SD70M-2.

Is there a specific technical reason why there might be 20 (4 x 5 TOFC spine cars), then 3 well cars, 10 89', 2 x 5 spine cars, 6 x 5 packs of well cars, etc... or just randomise a whole lot of intermodal equipment, whatever's going.

As an ATSF modeller in Australia - plenty of intermodal trains need to be modeled!

Thanks for your help & time! :-D

No technical reason. Operational convenience. What you describe is a bit of a dog's breakfast...
