Looking for a good online source to read about the Rock Island and the story leading up to their bankruptcy and abandonment........or perhaps a good book on the same subject.

If you have access to back copies of Trains check out anything by Dr. Ed Brunner; this gentleman worked as a block operator for the Rock in the years when he was firming up his education, and one article in particular, in the June, 2004 issue, contains a blow-by-blow description of exactly how conditions on the Rock's main lines deteriorated during the 1970's.

If you can locate a copy, almost the entire March 1983 issue of Trains magazine was devoted to the history and demise of the Rock Island.
