At Oklahoma Railway Museum, we have one of the last Rock Island RS1s existant (743), along with a wood sided RI caboose. Both of these are in line for restoration, as funding permits-problem is, funding never permits. What we do have is:

The 743 already painted as RI; A full shop building and tools; Several diesel mechanics and electricians that really want to get after 743; A shop crew that has already fully restored 2 wooden cabooses; A RR line to run them on.

What we don't have that is stopping us: partial funding; we have the rest out of general budget.

I'm doing something strange and out-of-the-box here, hoping some RI fans out there (or RI Historical Societies) will be interesting in helping out. Pictures if you want to see them are at:

We need to get these projects just enough momentum to get them off the ground. This engine, with the caboose, string of period freight cars, would look mighty good.......

If you want to talk about this, go to the rrpicturearchives link, and click on my email. Peace.
