A question about the Deerfield (Illinois) station - currently METRA's. At least in the 1950s, the Official Guide shows that Deerfield was a stop for many long distance passenger trains, and Glenview was not. The first question is, when did this change, and why? Secondly, the main waiting room/ticketing booth is located on the Chicago-bound platform, as it should be in the commuter age, but not as a long distance station. Is the current Deerfield station the one in use at the time when the LDs stopped there? Did the NB LDs cross over to stop on the (current) SB platform? Did the railroad operate left-handed in this area? Did passengers cross the tracks to reach the trains on the opposite platform? Was the station longer at some time? Just curious, since, at the time, this was a high-speed line, and (at least by today's standards) it would be considered unsafe to cross such a busy line.
