How did the Oregon-Washington Railroad & Navigation Company and later the Union Pacific obtain rights to operate over the Northern Pacific's Portland to Tacoma line? Was the only trackage in the Puget Sound region that OWRN built between Tacoma and Seattle that connected to NP's line in Tacoma? Did the Great Northern receive access to this line after James J. Hill obtained control of the NP?
