Double-track mainline with ABS Rules.

At about 7:20AM, EXTRA 2721 EAST (80 cars + caboose) stopped in accordance with a "STOP SIGNAL". Crew was advised that they would be delayed about 1' 30" due to a derailment ahead. Flagman went about 1000' west to provide protection.

Train #16 (Eng. 305 + 6 cars) approached at about 40 mph with the engine crew having missed the prior "APPROACH" and "STOP & PROCEED) signals and hit the rear end of X2721. Eng. 305 and tender and the caboose and rear 6 cars of the X2721 were derailed; Cond. of the X2721 was killed and 3 employees injured.
