The reason Kurt put this topic in here was to point people looking for the thread in here to the correct location. That's why there's a link above.

As others have noted, this is really a one-off. No other Class I or II railroad is pondering such a service AFAIK. As others have pointed out, while there are private operators (which include some Class I's), they are not owned by those operators, but state branded services. This is clearly different. It's an FEC owned venture, not something they operate as a contractor.

I'd add that designations such as Class I and II are not necessarily freight only designations, although by and large that's what they de facto are. I'm curious as to how Brightline will fall into these categories. I've seen elsewhere where Amtrak and the LIRR are sometimes referred to as Class I's.
