Lansdale Founders Day Weekend

Post by CNJGeep » Thu Jun 13, 2019 6:32 am

Lansdale Founders Day Weekend in August will see #40 operating from Lansdale to Souderton Friday evening and all day Sunday, and over the first three miles of the Stony Creek all day Saturday.

In addition, there's a diesel trip this Saturday evening over those first three miles of the Stony.
"I'll keep moving through the dark, with you in my heart, my blood brother." RIP D.C.

CNJ and Everyone:

Lansdale Founders Day Weekend is Friday-Saturday-Sunday August 23-24-25, 2019.
www.discoverlansdale.org/founders-day.html
The special NHIR trains are mentioned along with a picture.
Going to Souderton - which is about a five mile run one way - is going to be an interesting event for the
Indian Valley (as Souderton and Telford are sometimes described) as well as for the North Penn area...

This Saturday - June 15 - the Under the Lights Car Show on West Main Street in Lansdale is scheduled
beginning around 7 PM rain or shine - Lansdale Station is right in the midst of the show area. Taking the
regularly scheduled Lansdale-Doylestown Line trains are one of the best ways of getting there for the
Show - which I considered to be one of the best events of the year there...

Hats off to Septa allowing steam on their rails. It's pretty neat and I wonder how often we're going to see this.

Great, but like, $40? Really? I'll settle for watching trackside.

That's actually reasonable for the New Hope and Ivyland, one of the priciest tourist lines for what you get in the entire country.

The North Wales excursion was only $30, albeit over a shorter distance.

And it sold out quickly.

Everyone:

With Lansdale Founders Day Weekend approaching the NHIR special train runs between Lansdale and
Souderton should be receiving added interest from the rail enthusiast community along with the general
public in the Lansdale area. These train rides look to be prime events during this commemoration.

The New Hope and Ivyland Railroad has posted information about the Bethlehem Branch trains operating
between Lansdale and Souderton on August 23 and 25 and the Stony Creek Branch trains on August 24:

No, I’m pretty sure the event is called “Steam on the Bethlehem Branch” for a reason.

Prices to ride have been cut. I received about $35.00 back for my two tickets that I decided to keep.

The description of the train says vintage diesels will be used.
The title on the page for Bethlehem Branch trains is "Steam on the Bethlehem Branch".
Ambiguous.

This article tells why the steam engines won't be used.
https://www.thereporteronline.com/news/ ... 08f5d.html
"Unfortunately, we have found out that the steam engine will not be coming to Lansdale on Founders Day," said council Vice President Mary Fuller.

"There were issues with inspections, and for safety reasons they have decided for us, justifiably and understandably, that they didn't feel they could bring the steam engine out to transport people. We will still have excursion trains, but they'll be with the diesel engine," she said.

Those excursion train rides will be offered by the New Hope Railroad, and will be offered Friday through Sunday, with departures from Lansdale Station slated for 11:30 a.m., 1 p.m., 2:30 p.m. and 4 p.m. on Saturday. Tickets can be booked via www.NewHopeRailroad.com and those who have already purchased tickets should have been contacted by the railroad directly.

Fuller said, while disappointed the steam train isn't available this year, she'll push to have it visit when the town marks its 150th birthday in three years.

"I'll put them on notice: 150th, they don't have a choice. By 2022, if they have to push the steam engine, we'll have it," she said.

So it was sidelined for “safety reasons?” That’s a really weird decision.

That might depend on what they found during the inspections. They certainly wouldn't want to risk a failure in service on the day.
