BSL usually has weekend express service only for major events at the sports complex. These are listed on SEPTA's website, but not on the online or printed schedules.

The Ridge Ave trains run the express tracks from Fairmount to Olney. It's something.

Considering that ridership isn't all that high on weekends on the BSL, Ihave to ask why wwould you need the extra trains when the locals have plenty of capacity? Also when headways are longer on weekends, passing a local for an express to get somehwree is pointless since the local will probably be at the destination before the express gets there.

Indeed, while heading to Phillies games, several times I have watched at City Hall as an arriving "regular" express train (that terminates at Walnut-Locust-NOT the blue-light Sports Express) pulls in and many people headed to the game pile in. A few minutes later, I see those same people on the platform at Walnut-Locust waiting to get on my local train that I had boarded in the meantime back at City Hall. Many have egg-on-my-face expressions!

While it's nice that SEPTA runs extra express trains for Philies games, I often wish that they would schedule these trains a little earlier leaving Fern Rock (in relation to game time). Usually for a 7:05 game, there will be 3 trains leaving Fern Rock at 6:08, 6:18, & 6:28. If you factor in the time it takes to walk from the subway station down to the ball park, you will not make it to your seat in time for first pitch if you take the 6:28 train; and you would have to hustle to make it there from the 6:18.

Here's another link more specific to the Sports Express service - why doesn't SEPTA post a link direct from their home page?
