I have been taking the el into school for a while now on a regular basis and my curosity about trains eventually led me here to ask you guys some questions. I rode a car that was full wrapped in mural arts program advertisment the other day (forget the number) as the lead car. I had thought that the trains remain the same day to day, but was proven wrong when I saw the same car acting as the third car yesterday. How often do they shuffle cars round between trains?

On the topic, I understnd the M4 s are married pairs, but is there a differnt type of coupling between them and the other cars? How are the cars coupled (interior controls/by hand outside) And does the motormn have a specific way to "activate" the car at the end he/she wants to control.

I did see a car the other day get "turned off" (thats the best way I can describe it). Maintnce guy evacuated the third car on a train at 30th st, went into the cab and played around with some things until the lights in the car turned off nd the doors closed. The whels still worked normlly though. Has anyone ever seen this happen and why does it happen?

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,
Kilted
