Proposed FY 15 Service Plan

And now, back to our regularly scheduled programming...
Lets face it, the branch to doylestown is never going to have big numbers with a schedule so full of holes and streets with no sidewalks to get anywhere safely.

Yea that really needs to be put into service. 332 traffic is horrific. This is what we've been needing for 15 years. If it looped through the business park you'd have a town circulator plus a traffic reducer on a currently very heavily traveled route.

Excuse me while i go to a corner and cry over this.

Get someone to raise money to fund such a line, let TMA Bucks know, and the service can run! I dunno how much a bus line will reduce traffic out there, but it will allow access for people to get between Doylestown and the Community College, which is also quite important.

update on the new Lansdale station

http://www.thereporteronline.com/genera ... n-lansdale" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
LANSDALE >> Planning is nearly complete on the region’s newest rail station, and work could start as early as next spring on a new SEPTA station at Ninth Street in Lansdale.
“This platform is going to be 256 linear feet, and in addition we’re going to be doing a passenger shelter on the platform area for our ridership, and we’re also going to have a bicycle shelter on the platform, to be more cycling-friendly,” said SEPTA engineer Taron Booker.

The new Lansdale station will look very much like the one currently in place at Colmar, with a dual-level platform meant to increase accessibility and a platform length equal to three rail cars, with room for future expansion if need requires. Because the rail line is a single track past Lansdale station, passengers going both inbound and outbound (heading to or from Philadelphia) will be able to board trains going both directions from the same platform.

If you forget to wear your mittens, scarf, and ear muffs before you go out, you can always hit the big red button for the heat lamp while you are waiting at the station (like Colmar and North Wales).

But if your feelings are still hurt SEPTA Didn't waste taxpayer money building a Taj Mahal temporary station, you can ride your bike 5 blocks to the big Lansdale station and catch the train there.

ZS: Interesting information on the new "North Lansdale" station on the Doylestown Branch...One thing that comes to mind is "redundancy" because of
how close this new station will be to Lansdale - less then a mile - and how this may affect the status of Fortuna's future as a station...

How much parking will this new "North Lansdale" station be slated to get?

With the new proposed parking garage and additions at Lansdale will this station just be a temporary "fix" until the parking situation at Lansdale gets
straightened out?

So do you actually have a suggestion, or are you just going to complain as usual? :(
There is a distinction between constructive criticism and constantly kicking the puppy.

The station was approved by the Lansdale Council

LANSDALE >> A new SEPTA rail station in Lansdale is one big step closer to becoming a reality.

Borough council granted final approval Dec. 17 to plans for a new platform station at Ninth Street near Shaw Avenue, which Borough Manager Timi Kirchner said has been on the town’s to-do list for years.

“SEPTA is building another station along the line, which is their most successful line, and continuing to grow. It’s a platform station, which makes the line go that much faster through [the new station], and is much more accessible,” said Kirchner.

SEPTA and borough officials have discussed the new station as a concept since roughly 2007 when a land development agreement for the adjacent industrial property set aside space for the station, and formal plans have been vetted for several months by Lansdale staff and its planning commission as the transit agency moves ahead with plans to build a parking garage behind the Lansdale train station.

Lighting, security cameras and emergency call boxes are all being coordinated with borough police as part of the planning process, she said.

Now that land development approval has been granted, Ernst said the transit agency can begin applying for vertical construction permits for both the garage and the new platform. SEPTA will be building the platform on its own but will put the parking garage project out for bid in early 2015, and as that process advances, the borough and the transit agency will discuss who has the responsibility for overseeing construction on both.
I think the thread title should be changed

Suggestion: Construction of a modest station building that provides actual shelter from the elements for riders. Simple buildings such as Whitford would serve as a good model.

.....UHS

Unmanned
Homeless
Shelter

Maybe you can volunteer your time doing chores for SEPTA when complaints go through the roof about homeless living in the new station building and people using the public restroom 24/7 for WHATEVER.

Let's assume SEPTA grants your wish. Now where does SEPTA get the extra money in the operating budget to police the building, and pay the contract janitorial company to clean it more than once per week or bi-weekly?

I guess the taxpayers should foot the bill for that unnecessary cost, so we don't have to hear you complain about heat and cold, and Newtown, and everything else.

Then maybe you and your friends can hold a bake sale every time drug addicts come in and steal the copper wiring and pipes and the place is dark and without plumbing.

Nice hyperbole pal. Let's come back to earth, shall we? Other transit agencies have unstaffed stations that do not turn into homeless shelters. I think SEPTA can do it too. Get a grip please.

Wow, good old Whitford- the great tinder box that has defied arson for over 100 years. That station is the exception to the rule, not the rule. It does get used after hours, but not by the homeless.....

Sounds like many pro-SEPTA insiders here....

Anyways, there are technological solutions today that can easily monitor any station so they can be kept open 24/7. And if the homeless are such a problem (oh the humanity!), it sounds like SEPTA has an answer for that anyway whenever NPT gets off the ground. So there really is no reason why SEPTA should be building glorified bus shelter stations when complete enclosed waiting rooms could be utilized instead.
