David:
LIRR had 9 H16-44's equipped with steam generators; 1501-1509.
1503 was originally a H15-44 and was used as a demonstator even though it was painted in LIRR Tichy scheme.

CNJ's H15 an H1644's had steam generators. They were used in commuter service. They didn't have the extra box on the walkway like the NH had. Perhaps the boxes were for cab signaling equipment. :-)

Thanks David, How long did the NH keep those early units in service? I know that the late model H16's lasted into the PC era. Just wondering if any of those Lowey styled made it that long. :-)

I took pictures of them on the Altoona scrapline in 1970.
