Kinda lost track of this topic and I have meant to ask about their current status. Are all of the ex-CNJ engines out of revenue service at this time?

There are ex CNJ units in service. in fact a week or two ago one went down the NEC with shopped cars. The list isnt too far off from whats above.

4100 and 4101 are the only two left in revenue service
Where are hey working? What line? would love to catch them.
I see one of the other GP40's pulling that "daytime special" that seems to travel the corridor with the mix of cars for MMC. Still amazed at how fast I saw it flying down the corridor last year heading toward Metropark.

The 4145-4219 can do 100mph. The 4100-4112 can only do 80mph and i think 70mph on amtrak because of loading gauge restrictions.

The CNJ units have been a staple to the hoboken division services for quite a few years now because of the NEC speed/weight restrictions.

Are the CNJ units that much heavier than the Conrail units? I would think they would be close in weight.

The CNJ Units were originally made with heavy duty frames to accomodate a steam boiler, diesel fuel, and a water tank. The water/diesel tank went almost truck to truck. These things are for sure heavyier. I have the specs somewhere for both. i recall the CNJ units being some 290k+ in poundage.

The GP40P units were the heaviest four axle locomotives built - I just do not remember their exact weights.

NJT got their moneysworth and then some from the 1968 vintage GP40P fleet which were owned by NJDOT and
conveyed to NJT in the early 1980s. Converting them to HEP was a good move to keep them in constant service.

Great! I'm long overdue a visit to Hoboken... I'll visit that division in Spring.
Fascinating info about the CNJ's GP40P's in this thread. So many things I didn't know all these years. Absolutely great.

They have long outlasted the U34s which NJDOT purchased in the late 1960s for the EL lines and have also outlasted other NJDOT era equipment: Arrow I (1968), Arrow II (1974) and the Comet I coaches (1970-73).
