Well then, perhaps it's not the NJCL that's the problem. The same two tracks, as noted before, hosted a lot more express trains in the past. The eastern end of the Newark Division has changed somewhat in terms of operations.

Let's al be honest here... and I mean this with all sincerity... NJT, with their budget problems and lack of resources, is not going to spend the money to add a 3rd track on the NJCL, or anywhere else, in the forseeable future. What you see is what you get in regards to capacity on their lines. They really have no interest in running more express trains or getting people home faster. People involved with NJT have stated that on this site. Stations like Route 17 on the Main Line were built with the capacity to have a 3rd track but I'm not waiting out there for construction crews to start work any time soon. The same capacity issues are apparent there too. It seems that all of the places that had track torn out in the 1980's are struggling right now to keep up.
