I took a ride on the River LINE today (Friday March 26) to get a couple more River LINE station photos, which will eventually accompany the station description page

and discovered that they were running 15-minute headways. I asked the train operator when that started, and he replied, "Nine o'clock this morning." As of noon, the schedule was still being met with 15-minute headways.

Here are some photos in addition to the ones that I went out for:

I rode 3520 down to Entertainment Center and rode 3502 north to Delanco. Another train was in reserve on the layup track.

I photographed a CSX SW1001 on the way back, as well as a PATCO train.

Dang, NJT is responding to demand that quickly? I am impressed.

I rode from Trenton to Camden this morning and also noticed that opposing Riverline vehicles were more frequent. I verified with a fare enforcement officer on the way back that 15 minute headways were being tried out. There were some minor delays waiting for single track sections to clear. The automated on board voice apologizes for delays. Frank

Nice photos chuchubob! After viewing your construction photos of the line for the past couple of years, it's nice to see the line in action.

The "packed like sardines" photos is certainly a promising sign for the RiverLine. It reminds me of the days when I used to commute on the Newark City Subway.

Keep the pictures coming!

Visited Beverly yesterday to view a house my wife and I are purcahsing and noticed the reduced hedaways. I was very impressed. Some of the trains were totally empty, but others (and this was around 2 in the afternoon, not rush hour mind you) appeared to be more than half full.

As much as we may complain about it, this is what should be done with mass transit...build ahead of the need. It's what people call foresight, and it's what the government lacks so often.

When I rode the River line today, they were operating on 30-minute headways.

I rode it today and it seemed like headways were 15 minutes during midday. However, my northbound train back from Camden was not good. I arrived with my two kids at 4:00. The southbound arrived at 4:30, then sat at the station until 4:50, meaning that there was no 30 minute train ahead of us. Not surprisingly, all four cars were packed by the Rand. And we sat at two stations for extended periods to allow single-track clearance of southbounds (which seemed only 15 minutes apart--maybe it was due to some schedule or equipment snafus). It was an hour and 20 minute trip back to Bordentown. To top it off, my daughter left her stuffed seal souvenier on the train. Fortunately, I made it from Bordentown to Clinton Ave in time to pick it up, as the train was waiting to depart for its southbound run (don't ask how fast I drove to make it in time).

15 minute headways during busy hours was the original plan. NJT delayed implementing them to allow a learning curve for personnel and the equipment.
