Service to the Rockaways using the former LIRR facilities began circa 1956. At that time it was considered almost like a 4th division of the subway system. A big add-on with extra-fare.

Not considered, it was a 4th divison for a while, with a crew change at eucild

Didnt you have to change there at Euclid for a Rockaway train? I seem to remember that or was it only late night hours?

until 1990, the main A service was to Lefferts blvd, you had to get the late night "Rockaway Round Robin" from Euclid.
