Railfan, thanks for the update. As one who remembers when many of these car fleets came into service in the 1960's and 70's, it's really interesting to watch the subway fleet continue to evolve. How is it that all the R-44's were retired before all the R-42's which are slightly older? I wouldn't doubt that the R-42's were the better cars. What's more interesting is that they were the last "conventional", "married-pair" NYC subway cars with "corner-cabs". The R-44's were the beginning of the end circa 1974.
